Boy Scout Leader Training (updated 4-14-09)

You may take any of these training courses at any of the times or locations. As of mid-March 2009 This is Scouting, an on-line course similar to Guide to Safe Scouting may be taken instead of New Leader Essentials.

You will get more out of Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster training if you take it in succession from one District. In addition to the course material you are formed into a patrol, just like your Scouts, and see what it is like to “live’ in a patrol. You qualify for your Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster trained patch by successfully completing the three courses:

  • New Leader Essentials or This is Scouting (If you took it as a Cub Leader it also counts)
  • Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific (There are 3 modules, each lasting about 2˝ hrs that can all be in done one day or separated in up to 3 days/evenings)
  • Basic Outdoor Leader This is different from the Cub Scout BALOO. It is typically a weekend campout although it can be 2 separate days.
