College of Commissioner Science

What's Going On and When?  Bay-Lakes Council will be hosting a College of Commissioner Science on Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4, 2018, at Camp Rokilio in Kiel, Wisconsin.  The event kicks off with registration at 7:15 am on Saturday and concludes Sunday with the Closing Ceremony at 3:00 pm.

Who Should Go? If you serve on the Commissioner Staff or if you are considering being a part of the Commissioner Staff, this is an opportunity for you. Courses offered focus on proficiency in Commissioning, Relationship Building, and Leading to Make a Difference in your Unit, District, and Council.

What Do You Need to Do? You need to register!  When registration opens, you will receive an email letting you know, and you can get right on it.

Should You Invite my Friends? It's a Scouting event; why wouldn't you?

What Can You Accomplish? The Bachelors and Masters of Commissioner Science are both available; Saturday's courses will provide everything needed for the Bachelors, and Sunday's courses for the Masters.

Why Should You Go? That is a great question.

I have discovered that while I am capable of solving most problems or developing effective plans to accomplish tasks on my own if given enough time, when I work with experienced leaders and others who have either faced the same challenges I am facing or who are going through the same challenges, the ideas we develop and the solutions we devise together are better and come faster. I also find that I have a new person to whom I can reach out and test ideas before I launch them. Given that we all know the Time-Starved Leader syndrome, I choose to work with others when I face those challenges and save myself the problem of having enough time. I've also discovered that I am more helpful to my friends and colleagues as a result of my interaction with others.

Furthermore, when I save the time of having to do it all myself, I have more time to play games with my family; spend time with my wife; go on camping trips with my sons; and visit with my colleagues about things other than Scouting.

The gist here is that time spent learning to be better in the role is time that will earn itself back. Who doesn't need that?

I look forward to seeing you there!

Yours in Scouting,

Christopher George
Kettle Country District Commissioner
