Welding Merit Badge Offered at Miller Electric

America needs welders! Welding has played a significant role in America’s economic and industrial growth and is an integral part of the manufacturing, construction, energy, and defense industries. Unfortunately, our country is experiencing a shortage of skilled and talented welders. In response, the BSA now offers a welding merit badge to promote this skill, both as a career and as a hobby.

To help Scouts earn the welding merit badge, a one-day program will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Miller Electric Mfg. training center in Appleton, WI. During the session Scouts will learn about welding safety, welding equipment and processes, careers in welding, and more. Scouts will also perform the required arc welding operations. Although Scouts will need to complete some of the requirements prior to the event, on-site counselors will sign the merit badge cards at the end of the day when all requirements have been met.

Due to the close supervision required for this activity, enrollment is limited. Scouts must be reliable, good-listeners, and at least 14 years of age. Enrollment is limited to 18 Scouts and only two or three Scouts per troop will be accepted. Lunch and a T-shirt are included.
