Powder Horn

May 20-22 at Gardner Dam Scout Camp

What is Powder Horn?

Powder Horn is an Outdoor/High Adventure resource management source designed to motivate and prepare adult and youth leaders to provide their unit with safe and correct Outdoor/High Adventure activities. Because it’s run through Venturing, it concentrates on the 26 program areas involved with the Ranger Award. The course will update you on the new Venturing rank advancement and Trust award. You do not have to be a Venture Scout to participate, the experiences provided participants and the resources they’ll be put in touch with can be applied to every level of Scouting, from Webelos on up. Therefore, all Scout leaders as well as Venturing Crew members and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts ages 14 and up are invited to participate

You can expect tips on physical fitness, opportunities for C.O.P.E., climbing and scuba diving, as well as presentations on bicycling, backpacking, communications, winter sports, first aid, trip planning, fishing, land navigation and watercraft activities. The fun will continue with presentation on caving, equestrian handling, settles in to a LNT on the go activities, an outdoor cooking presentation, and shooting and more! You will meet professional and seasoned hobbyist that will share their tricks and trades.

How Will I Benefit From This?

This course will help adult and youth leaders safely conduct outdoor activities of a FUN and challenging nature. It will introduce you to resources to help lead units through an Outdoor/High Adventure program. This course will also help familiarize Scouts and Scouters with additional programs to help their Scouts successfully meet their requirements for other high adventure. By the time you are ready to leave, physically tired, grown attached to a whole new group of scouting friends, and be re-energized to having fun.
